Don't Forget to Add Your Car Insurance to Your List This Thanksgiving

In grade school it seems like you spend endless hours sitting around making up lists
of what you're thankful for every Thanksgiving. Are you thankful for your house? Your parents? The lasagna Mom made for dinner every Friday? As an adult food, comfort and family still feature pretty high on the list of things you're thankful for, but there's a new player in town now-financial security. When you're giving thanks for financial security it's impossible to forget the men and women standing behind your car insurance.A car accident is nothing to laugh at. Unless you have an excellent (and more than a little eccentric) sense of humor there's nothing funny at all about watching your car become the next contestant on "The Fender is Right"...or wrong, however you want to look at it. Aside from the obvious trauma, shock and physical injuries that can go along with it you've got something else to consider. The financial ramifications of a car accident are tremendous, something that's going to pop into your head sooner rather than later. If you're not carrying a good car insurance policy you could find yourself up a creek without the proverbial paddle before you even get a chance to blink.
The first thing you're going to worry about is what you have to do to get your own car back on the highway. Without insurance (or if you just decided to pick up the bare minimum and call it a day) you're going to be paying all of those costs out of pocket. How's your budget looking these days? If someone gave you the choice between paying $400-500 in repairs or paying $200 and letting them pick up the rest, which way would you go? That's exactly what car insurance companies are doing with your deductibles and their comprehensive and collision coverage.
What about liability car insurance? You're responsible for every dime of the damages resulting from an accident you caused, even the dimes that aren't going to benefit you at all. For example, you know you're responsible for the damages to the other drivers' cars. Did you know you're also responsible for repairing private or public property and any medical bills that go along with it? That includes pharmaceuticals and rehab. Have you seen what physical therapists are getting paid per session these days?
Now imagine you had to pay all that yourself without your car insurance there to back you up. You'd be looking at a pretty bleak Christmas, and a hefty ticket for driving uninsured to go along with it. So when you're offering up a toast to the people in your life who have made a difference over the past year don't forget to include your car insurance company. Without them, who knows where you'd be?
